My experience of using technology and AI

In our modern world, it is undeniable that technology as well as Artificial Intelligence have already come nearly every sphere of life, from education to service systems. The integration of them to learning and teaching has transformed the ways we gain knowledge. In short, technology and AI make learning and teaching much easier and effective. In this blogpost, I will share my own experiences of utilizing them in both my learning and teaching process.

One of the most used technology when I was learning, especially preparing my IELTS exam, was ChatGPT, which is AI-powered language model. I utilized it to check my essays and got feedback on grammar, syntax and coherence. As Zawacki et al. (2019) state, it helped me to get more timely feedback, which is important for my learning process. This tool assisted me not only save my time but also it provided me with advices that led me to improve my writing skills. In addition to this, I made use of speaking app, which is Fixolang for improving my speaking skills in English. This AI-powered app has speech recognition technology that assess and give instant feedback on fluency, pronunciation along with intonation. This in turn, allowed me to recognize the areas need to be developed leading me to enhance my speaking skill.

When it comes to my teaching process, I successfully incorporate different technologies and AI-driven tools to not only make my lessons more effective, but also increase student engagement and motivation to learn English. According to Chan and Hu (2023), when teachers make use of interactive AI tools during lessons, the students are tent to engage more activities compared to the traditional lessons. Therefore, I often apply Kahoot to my lessons for adding some drive to the class. The gamification and interactive content give the learners a chance to enjoy their learning process as well as have fun. Another AI tool that I have been using since I started teaching is Poe.com, which helps me to tailor the teaching materials. As Kaledio, Robert and Frank (2024) state, AI-powered tools can assist teachers to create more inclusive learning environment for learners by providing customized resources. While teaching at a public school, teachers face to diversity in students’ knowledge, abilities and interests as well, in that case poe.com can be a lifesaver for teachers. It offers many services, such as changing a higher-level material into a lower level, creating different level activities from a material and so on. Differentiating materials through AI tools gives teachers a chance to save their time and keep work-life balance.

To all teachers : do not get overworked by doing everything by yourself, just use AI tools and be a better, happier and healthier teacher, who takes cares of each students and yourself too)
